There is a lot of speculation as to the benefits or otherwise of obtaining a good Page Rank as supplied by the search engine goliath, Google. It’s also deemed desirable to obtain a good Alexa Traffic Ranking. The gravity of these two in combination can dictate how well your site can make money for you.
Google we know plenty about.
To prompt the internet search leviathan into bestowing a reasonable rank on your site, you need that site to be “popular”, by gaining as many quality back-links as possible while serving a good measure of original and relevant content on your site. If you want to make money with your site, you have to work hard at convincing Google that it’s worth a decent PR.
As for Alexa, it appears there’s rather more mist surrounding the actualities of what is a relatively simple piece of statistical information than it actually warrants.
Because of this, there are plenty of sites out there who claim to be able, for a fair renumeration, to dramatically increase your Alexa Traffic Ranking. The claim you will make money by the truckload using their system to boost your Alexa Rank.
The reality is quite different.
There is no magic formula to increasing your Alexa Ranking any more than you will get a better Page Rank by spamming Google. It simply won’t work. There is only one way to improve your Alexa Rank and that is to drive more traffic to your site (or blog).
Alexa gets its statistical information from internet users who have the Alexa toolbar on their browser, so the more people who visit your site that have that toolbar, the better you rank will be.
Simple.
How do you tempt more owners of the Alexa toolbar to your site? You don’t, because you don’t know who has it and who hasn’t. One thing you can do is make a point of recommending that your readers hop over to Alexa’s website and download their toolbar because it has all these extra benefits. Like being able to see at a glance how their site is doing traffic wise, as well as those they visit!
So they can tell who is telling the truth about how much traffic they’re getting and who’s telling porkies!
