Here’s something controversial.
Those of a nervous disposition should not read this…
It never ceases to surprise me just how many Internet Marketers give the impression that they are earning a whole truckload of money every month. In an industry (if indeed it can be called that) where statistics show that fully 95% of marketers FAIL, that means only a paltry 5% of them succeed. But what fraction of that 5% are making the proverbial truckload of money every month from their online ventures?
I wonder. I would hazard a guess that rather more than three quarters that 5% are only earning pocket money from their online efforts. That can be see from some of the more honest marketers out there that have the guts to quote their earnings.
I see too many marketers getting all excited about how much money they make from the likes of MyLot where I know for a fact it would take the writing skills of a team of professionals who can knock out a telephone directory’s worth of text to actually see more than a few pennies a month in income.
Or how others get all lathered up about how much money they make from reading emails for two cents a pop. Oh man, that new Mercedes Benz is just another two complete encyclopedia’s worth of reading to go…
Then there are others who blabber on about how they make “x” amount of dollars every month with this or that MLM program that they’ve joined… omitting to mention that they only need two thousand or so more sign-ups in their downlines before they actually start to see any of that money!
It makes me smile to listen (or more correctly read) that unbelievable claptrap that newbies swallow hook, line and sinker thinking that a pot of gold lies at the foot of the rainbow somewhere beyond that hill way over yonder!
Am I sounding a mite cynical with this post? Just a tad negative? Ever so slightly miffed at something?
Well, I suppose I’m rather disillusioned by some of the blatant half-truths and mischievous misdirection tactics employed by a lot of the so-called “big hitters” as well as some of the not so big hitters.
Supposed six-figure earners bemoaning that they can’t pay their internet bill this quarter because of some unforeseen calamity that has seen sales of their products fall at Clickbank. Or an unusually high number of their ebooks have been returned for refund by serial freebie gatherers. Then in the next breath they tell all who will listen that their latest product launch has just netted them another six figure sum!
Really?
Well you have to give them some credit. What would these marketers gain from telling it like it really is?
Some create a sales page says things like “I made $5,000 a month from this one product alone…” when what they really mean is they made $5,000 once and that was an accumulation of ALL their product sales over one very good month. The rest of the time they really make a couple of hundred dollars a month…
But if they told you that, would you buy their product? Not a chance!
Some create sales figures in authentic looking tables that look just like screen shots of the real thing when in fact they are often doctored (oooh that is gonna upset some people…) to look better so you’ll believe you can make that amount of money by buying their product. If they told you how much they really made you wouldn’t touch their product with a barge pole!
Others create pretty site stats tables that look like their sites are getting tons of visitors… until you look down at your Alexa bar at the bottom of your browser and it tells you a rather different story…
And check out some of those testimonials… are they ALL real? Do all those people really exist?
Sure they do.
Ok, enough of that. It’s not all trickery, sleight of hand and jiggery pokery.
I believe I can still trust maybe a handful of the more honest marketers out there to give it to me straight. When I see testimonials given by real people that I know from my own meanderings online, or that I can contact and get a confirmation, then I know the owner of a sales page is honest.
The truth of Internet Marketing is that the real top people are making a huge amount of money, but graphically it’s a triangle with the few at the pointy end at the top getting all the gold while everyone else beneath them are scrabbling their way up their own ladders trying to get a piece of that action and having to to make do with mere scraps along the way.
The trick is to see yourself up there with the best of the best. Believe in yourself that you can be part of that exclusive club. Then work your backside off to muscle your way up to that pointy bit at the top where you will share some of the spoils!
It’s not impossible, but very do-able with lots of hard work and making the right connections as you go. And always tell yourself: “Never give up”.
Eventually you will start to make money by the truckload. Then you’ll also see the side of the hill where that pesky pot of gold has been hidden!
